Alexandria - Naval Academy - Excelsis was one of four Elite Academies founded to "provide enhanced training and educational opportunities" for Cadets who had excelled during their first two years of training.
In 5022 as a result of a study made on the effectiveness of the various types of Academies[1] the effectiveness of three Elite Academies still open to question. was called into question. NELSON and Nelson II[2] compared the records of one million officers who had graduated from each of the Elite Academies, from standard ground based academies, from Academy Ships, and on board Capital Ships. They also compared the records of those who had trained on board the USS Devastator.
The results confirmed Admiral Stahl's opinion expressed at the time the concept of Elite Academies was first proposed. The consequence of that study, along with the fact that the Elite Academies cost on average about 25% more per Cadet was a decision to convert the three open Elite Academies to standard ones, and to include more "hands on training" on board simulated ships to be located at every ground based academies.
