The Andromeda Galaxy (aka M31) is a spiral galaxy approximately 2.5 million light-years from Pluribus. The name Andromeda originates from Terran Pre Astro times. To most spacefaring civilizations of the Milky Way Galaxy, it is mostly referred to as the Great Spiral Galaxy or the Sister Galaxy. It was the USS Belfast under Captain Bergtreu who was the first official Union ship reaching the Galaxy, and he entered the name Andromeda Galaxy into his log book, the Terran name was officially entered in all Star catalogs and official documents. Today even the Kermac and other non Union Milky Way societies generally use the term Andromeda Galaxy. Andromeda is the nearest spiral galaxy to the Milky Way, but not the closest galaxy overall. It gets its name from the area of the sky in which it appears, the Andromeda constellation, which was named after the mythological princess Andromeda. Andromeda is the largest galaxy of the Local Group, which consists of the Andromeda Galaxy, the Milky Way, the Triangulum Galaxy, and about 30 other smaller galaxies After the last Y’All invasion it was generally assumed that the invading alien armada originated in the Andromeda Galaxy. Since no Union ship could make the 2 million light-year trip and the Union wanted to prevent another Y’All invasion by finding out who was sending them and if possible make peace or carry the war to their doorsteps and end the menace for good. To reach the other Galaxy and ensure a steady material and personnel flow in the event of a war, the most ambitious construction project in the known history of the Galaxy was undertaken. A string of space stations, every 5000 Lightyears from the Star system Stepping Stone in the Milky Way Galaxy to the Bridgehead Star System in the Andromeda Galaxy. This string of stations became known as THE BRIDGE. With the Bridge complete a Space train connection could be established. New civilizations were contacted. After a short but violent war with the Pertharians and the Briaar, the Pertharians became the first Non Milky Way Civilization that joined the United Stars of the Galaxy. This event was also the reason for the official Name change to United Stars of the Galaxies.” Less than 8 percent of the Andromeda Galaxy is surveyed and only 3 percent is considered Union Space. But it appears that the Andromeda galaxy is somewhat less populated than the Milky Way Galaxy. No traces of the Y’All have been found so far. Colonization and expansion are steadily progressing. Nine Civilizations have joined the Union so far:
With Sayonara Station being almost at the opposite site of the Andromeda Galaxy and established there due to an active Ancient Gate nearby.
