Due to the fact that the Barrow System is only 12 light years away to the closest Kermac System and also the closest to Kermac Prime (453 LY) it has several long range scanning stations (much to the dismay of the Kermac, as Union Sensors can detect much of their space traffic in that region.)
Before the Nogoll War, Barrow, Arsenal and Factory were inside a narrow region of Union space surrounded by Galactic Council / Kermac space.
