A carpet is a fixed textile floor covering consisting of an upper layer of "pile" attached to a backing. The pile is generally either made from wool or a artificial fibres and usually consists of twisted tufts which are often heat-treated to maintain their structure.
While many societies in the Union didn't use carpets prior to them joining, that use has become more commonplace as carpets are used in at least some locations in Union Schools as well as in United Stars Military facilities and ships (the famous “Mustard Yellow Carpet”.)
