Osiris

( For other uses see: USS Osiris, Osiris Society, Osiris Project and Osiris System)

The ancient Egyptians of Earth and the Sarans share many common cultural aspects. Including elements of religion and worship of deities.

usually identified as the god of the afterlife, the underworld and the dead. He is classically depicted as a green-skinned man with a Pharaoh's beard, partially mummy-wrapped at the legs, wearing a distinctive crown with two large ostrich feathers at either side and holding a symbolic crook and flail. Neither role nor depiction varies greatly from ancient Egypt or Saran sources. In Saran recent history it was prohibited to mention Osiris as he was a male God and while their existence and place in the pantheon of Saran Gods were not denied, the idea that a male God could rule over female gods and thus the Queens of Saran was considered taboo. Only relative recent reforms, notably caused by Saran becoming a founding member of the United Stars of the Galaxy and a very enlightened, fair and forward thinking queen ( Queen Hemotra XXIX) allowed open Osiris worship. It should be noted that the secret Underground Organization Sons of Osiris, shed its secret nature and became the base of an open Osiris priesthood after Queen Hemotras ascent to the Throne. Several Saran and Non Saran (Terran) Sects and Religious associations are known to worship Osiris.
