Mos scale

Within the United Stars Military, there are standard efficiency ratings for every MOS, and possible positions occupied by that MOS. These ratings are considered when determining the eligibility of an individual for a promotion.

For the most part the efficiency rating is based upon a series of standardized tests with a computronic calculating the Service Member's efficiency rating. Individuals can chose to take efficiency tests that are not for positions performed by their current MOSes, provided one of the following situations is true.

  • The Service Member previously held a MOS for which that efficiency rating applied.
  • The MOS for the position being tested is included in a list of "suggested cross training MOSes" for the Service Member's current MOS or position.  Alternatively, the Service Member received the cross training with either orders or approval from their Commanding Officer.
  • The MOS for the position being tested is in the same field as the Service Member's current MOS, with the only requirement the Service Member lacking to enter that MOS is the minimum rank which the individual will reach upon their next promotion.
  • The Service Member has requested a lateral move and is being tested to see if they are eligible for that.

Helm Rating[]

Like all position ratings, the Helm Rating is measured on a scale of 1 to 1000, with a score of 50 on the initial test needed to enter into the training program.  After completing the training program a new test is given with a score of 100 needed to be considered an Helmsman[1].

Virtu Helmsman typically have two scores, the primary one received while using the Virtu Helm system and a second one received without that system.  This is primarily due to the fact that most Homo Galactus Virtu Helmsman with a score above 300(v) would need to be replaced at the helm if there was a failure on the Virtu Helm system.

  1. 1.0 1.1 A score of 100 is needed to be a helmsman of ships up to destroyer size.   For Capital Ships, a score of 300 is the minimum needed to be a helmsman, although in case of emergency anyone with an Helm Efficiency Rating of 100 or more may temporarily occupy the helm position.  For ships the size od the Lyrec Class Battleships or larger, it's recomended that the helmsman have a score of at least 400.
