Native American‏‎

Definition of Native American[edit | edit source]

: a member of any of the indigenous peoples of the western hemisphere especially: a Native American of North America and especially the U.S.

Native Americans, also known as American Indians, Indigenous Americans, and other terms, are the indigenous peoples of the United States, except Hawaii and territories of the United States. More than 570 federally recognized tribes live within the US, about half of which are associated with Indian reservations. The term "American Indian" excludes Native Hawaiians and some Alaskan Natives, while "Native Americans" (as defined by the US Census) are American Indians, plus Alaska Natives of all ethnicities. The US Census does not include Native Hawaiians or Chamorro, instead being included in the Census grouping of "Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander ".

Post Ascent[edit | edit source]

the term has virtually no meaning other than on Earth. Even on the planet of Terran Human origin, the term has lost much of its significance. After the Ascent and the disappearance of the Nation-States on Earth, the term of Native Americans ceased importance. Native tribes were no longer "confined" to reservations but neither did they have special privileges.
By the end of the time period known as the "Second Exodus," there was much room on Earth. Almost all cities and towns on Earth lost much of their population. Manufacturing and especially Heavy Industry and widespread agriculture had largely moved off-planet. Most of planet Earth became very quiet in terms of development and industrial expansion. Nature healed itself or was aided by extensive "de-civilization operations".
Many groups of Native people of all across the planet had left Earth for their "own" worlds. Those who, due to traditions remained on Earth now had much room and freedom to expand or return to their traditional ways.
Surprisingly few did, as much of the traditional values had been lost.
