Tolan was until recently a sparsely populated fringe colony of the Attikan Commonwealth. It became a Union world when the Attikan Commonwealth joined
the Union,but remained essential forgotten and on the sidelines. During the 4603 All-Union-Planet Assessment Initiative , BoCA specialists visited the world and among other things assessed
the planets natural resurces that could be developed into a commercial export product.
The almost endless tundras and the enormous herds of these horse sized Mouth Diggers was identified as such a resource. However the meat turned out to have an extreme rancid, gamey taste.
Only few Union species could tolerate the meat . The Mouth Diggers were developed into a semi domesticated farmed (Ranch) animal for leather and a low quality wool product.
All changed in 5044 with the Togar joining the Union.
Togar go wild for the meat and love the jerky product made out of Mouth Digger meat.
Almost overnight the demand for Mouth diggerJerky went through the roof and several CO-OP meat processing plants sprung up..
In 5050 almost a million tons of M.D. Jerkey are produced and exported.
